Antz
Funny, inventive, dazzling animated adventure about Z (voiced by and modeled after Woody Allen), an individualist ant fighting a colony paradigm. While not quite up to the narrative standard of Toy Story, Antz hits an amusing, creative stride as its reluctant hero pursues two objects of desire: the feisty Princess Bala (voiced by Sharon Stone) and the dream of a wonderland named Insectopia. An entertaining view of the world from a significantly smaller, and less sanitary, point of view. Warning: contains material which might not suitable for all children, including some risque humor, some (ahem, funny) bathroom jokes, and a frightening, grim battle against the ferocious termites. Unlike typical Disney fare, this DreamWorks production doesn't pull any punches when it comes to war. Also not for those already afraid of bugs. The all-star vocal cast includes Gene Hackman, Christopher Walken, Jennifer Lopez, Danny Glover, Dan Akroyd, John Mahoney, Jane Curtin, and Paul Mazursky. 1.85:1 widescreen (16x9-enhanced) and DD 5.1. Extras are plentiful on this Signature Selection, including an audio commentary with directors Eric Darnell and Tim Johnson; a behind the scenes featurette; "Inside Looks" at the basics of Antz' CGI animation, facial systems, and character design; production notes; cast and crew biographies; theatrical and TV trailers; and disc production credits.
