Bandits

Bound to become a minor cult classic, Katja von Garnier's free-spirited, rock-n-roll take on Thelma and Louise somehow floats lightly above the mediocre swill of clichés it's made from. Four women in a lousy prison rock band escape just before a gig at the local Policeman's Ball. Their notoriety as lamming convicts finally secures them the airplay and popularity they yearned for — but, as the cops close in, they really don't want to be recognized. There's nothing especially funny, intelligent, or moving in this relentlessly un-hip fantasy, and yet it has a unique, loose, good-natured tone that makes its brand of mediocrity just a tad more pleasing than the same-old. Presented in 1.85:1 widescreen and both German 5.1 Dolby digital and German 2.0 Dolby Surround, with subtitles in English, Spanish and French. Includes commentary by the director. Keep case.
