The Man in the Iron Mask
This adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic tale could have been little more more than a teenage swoon over dreamy Leo DiCaprio, but with a quartet of venerable actors as Dumas' Four Musketeers (Jeremy Irons, Gerard Depardieu, Gabriel Byrne, and John Malkovich), director and scenarist Randall Wallace doesn't dare let his camera linger on Hollywood's "it-boy" for too long. Wallace (who wrote Braveheart) fashions an enjoyable script that invokes themes dealing with honor, loyalty, multiple identities, and enough paternal/fraternal befuddlement to make Freud go on vacation. Commentary with Wallace, trailer, storybords, mask concept drawings, textual supplements.
